On Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, the Florida Legislature officially passed SB 1688/HB 553 Career-Themed Courses. SB 1688/HB 553 mandates that school districts must notify middle school students and their parents about available career and technical education opportunities. Additionally, it obligates school districts to develop strategies for promoting and informing students about career and technical education programs. In response, Florida State Senator Rosalind Osgood (D-Tamarac) issued the following statement:
“Educational opportunities are the key to unlocking endless possibilities, and legislation like this is the guiding light for students. By making information accessible and fostering an environment where every student can explore diverse career paths, we empower the leaders and innovators of tomorrow. I would like to extend a huge thank you to Representative Dunkley for her unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in championing this cause in the House. I would also like to thank my fellow legislators for their unanimous support on this very important bill.”
