Four years ago today, Breonna Taylor was murdered by three Louisville Metro Police Department officers in her apartment. The officers used forced entry to enter Breonna Taylor’s apartment as a part of an ongoing investigation. Due to the plainclothes officers being unidentifiable as law enforcement during the forced entry, Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker fired a warning shot at what he thought were home intruders. The police officers then fired thirty-two shots ultimately killing Breonna Taylor. In response to the anniversary of Breonna Taylor’s murder, Florida State Senator Rosalind Osgood (D-Tamarac) issued the following statement:
“Today marks a very difficult day – four years since the tragic loss of Breonna Taylor, who was unjustly murdered by Louisville Metro Police officers in her own home. The lack of proper identification during the forced entry, coupled with a heartbreaking series of events, robbed Breonna Taylor of her already bright future. As we reflect on this painful anniversary, let’s honor Breonna’s memory and acknowledge the painful emotional toll on her family. Justice isn’t just a demand; it’s a heartfelt plea for accountability and closure for those who loved her.”
