Today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jeff Greene issued the following statement in response to news reports of “gross misconduct” in Commissioner Adam Putnam’s Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services:
“The Florida Department of Agriculture has been bought and sold by proud NRA sellout Commissioner Adam Putnam. Employees are being told they ‘work for the NRA,’ not the people of Florida, concealed weapons permits are being handed out like lollipops – what egregious breach of trust will be exposed next? This is life and death. If Rick Scott won’t stand up and remove Putnam from public office, voters will. We’ve had it with lies, corruption, and the priorities of deep pocketed special interest groups being placed over public interest.”

Today, the Toby Overdorf Campaign announced the endorsement of Stuart City Commissioner Troy McDonald. Overdorf, a Republican, is running for the District 83 seat in the Florida House of Representatives, currently held by Gayle Harrell, who faces term limits this year. McDonald’s endorsement comes on the heels of last week’s announcement that Port St. Lucie Councilwoman Stephanie Morgan is backing Overdorf.
“There’s no question that Toby Overdorf is the right choice for District 83,” said McDonald. “He is a strong leader and has the conservative vision and values we need to keep Florida strong. I look forward to working with him.”

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), the top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services’ subcommittee on cybersecurity, today urged Secretary of Defense James Mattis to “prepare to engage Russian cyber operators” attempting to influence the upcoming 2018 midterm elections.
“Russia’s influence activities continue in the United States and elsewhere,” Nelson wrote in a letter to Mattis. “U.S. Cyber Command’s Cyber Mission Force, should be ordered to prepare to engage Russian cyber operators and disrupt their activities as they conduct clandestine influence operations against our forthcoming elections.”
Nelson also urged the secretary to implement the recommendations of a Defense Department task force on cyber deterrence, which offered the Pentagon several suggestions on how to the U.S. could deter further Russian cyberattacks. The task force recommendations were presented to the Pentagon last February but have not yet been implemented.
In addition to the Nelson, the letter was signed by Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH).
