The Florida Lottery is warning citizens of a lottery scam involving MEGA MILLIONS®in which scammers are sending emails to the public indicating they may have won $1 million, in an effort to obtain personal and financial information. Do not respond to these emails; if you have not purchased a MEGA MILLIONS ticket, you cannot win a prize.
The email features the MEGA MILLIONS logo as part of the letterhead, and states that the recipient was among a group of randomly selected people to participate in an ongoing MEGA MILLIONS drawing. Individuals are asked to provide general information about themselves in order to participate. The email goes on to warn the recipient not to share this information with other people in order to avoid impersonation and a double claim.
Florida Lottery players will never be required to transfer funds to secure their winnings for MEGA MILLIONS or any other Florida Lottery game. The Florida Lottery announces that Carolyn Morris, 70, of Ponte Vedra, claimed her $325,000 share of the $650,000 LUCKY MONEY™ jackpot from the August 11, 2017, drawing at Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee. The Florida Lottery To Resume Operations
Make-up Drawings for all Games Scheduled
The Florida Lottery announced today that daily drawings will resume tomorrow and make-up drawings for all Lottery Draw games suspended due to Hurricane Irma will also be conducted in sequence tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12, with full security and auditing measures in place.
Players holding tickets for any Lottery Draw games originally scheduled for Sunday, September 10, and Monday September 11, will be able to view the video-taped make-up drawings on the Florida Lottery’s YouTube site once they are posted. Draw results will also be posted on the Lottery’s Winning Numbers webpage, as well as on its Facebook and Twitter platforms.
Florida Lottery drawings were suspended Sunday September 10, and Monday September 11, as a result of Hurricane Irma and the related Executive Orders by Governor Scott and the Florida Lottery which provided authority for the temporary suspension of business operations to ensure the health and safety of Floridians.
“We thank Governor Rick Scott for his decisive leadership, as well as the selfless devotion and courage of all those who placed themselves at risk to protect Florida’s families over the past several days,” said Lottery Secretary Poppell.
The Florida Lottery Temporarily Suspends Drawings
The Florida Lottery announced today that daily drawings are being temporarily suspended, but stressed that players should keep their tickets. Makeup daily drawings will take place as soon as possible after the potentially catastrophic impacts of Hurricane Irma have passed. Players already holding tickets will still be eligible to win.
Governor Scott’s Executive Order #17-235, and the Lottery’s Executive Order #17-0001 dated September 10, 2017, allows for prudent actions to be taken, including the temporary suspension of business operations, as necessary to ensure the health and safety of all Floridians.
