Florida Lottery warns of scam in Hillsborough County
The Florida Lottery is warning citizens of a lottery scam making its rounds in Hillsborough County using a variety of fraudulent techniques targeting seniors in the Hispanic community. Scammers are attempting to convince victims they are in possession of winning lottery tickets, but need cash to claim the winnings because they are in the country illegally. Scammers have also attempted to validate the crime by claiming to work for the Florida Lottery.

PSC Assists Hillsborough County Seniors During Older Americans Month
During May’s Older Americans Month, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is visiting three Hillsborough County Senior Centers on Tuesday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 23.
PSC representatives will distribute and discuss water and energy conservation information, assist eligible seniors in applying for the Lifeline Assistance telephone/broadband discount program, and offer protection against scams targeting utility customers.

FDLE Agents arrest Tampa man on 15 counts related to child pornography
Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested 56-year-old Jon Scott Wildman, of 13907 Capitol Drive, Tampa, on 10 counts of possession of child pornography and 5 counts of transmission of child pornography.
FDLE Agents began investigating Wildman after receiving a tip in February 2017 that several images depicting child pornography were uploaded to an Internet-based website. Information showed a specific IP address uploaded the images under a pseudonym. An additional tip was received that revealed the same IP address associated with similar activity. Upon the execution of a search warrant, the investigation revealed the IP address was registered to Wildman.
Wildman was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail for booking on a $75,000 bond.
PSC to Help Consumers in Hillsborough County for National Consumer Protection Week
The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will be informing consumers about scams targeting utility customers during the 20th Annual National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW), March 4–10, 2018.
On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, PSC staff will be speaking with consumers in Hillsborough County about how to avoid these scams while also providing tips on energy and water conservation and information about the Lifeline Assistance telephone/broadband discount program.

CFO Patronis Tours Hurricane Irma Damage In Hillsborough County
On Tuesday, CFO Jimmy Patronis toured impacts of Hurricane Irma in Hillsborough County with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Chief Dennis Jones. CFO Patronis and Chief Jones rode with Station 16 as they continued to survey damage and conduct urban search and rescue efforts.
CFO Patronis offered insurance resources to residents impacted by the storm. Any Floridian who needs assistance with insurance-related issues after Hurricane Irma is encouraged to call the Insurance Consumer Helpline at 1-877-693-5236. Floridians can also find Hurricane Irma insurance resources on www.myfloridacfo.com.
