State Representative Jay Trumbull today released the following statement on the death of former Senator Greg Evers:
“Today, our state mourns the loss of State Senator Greg Evers. I had the pleasure of serving with Senator Evers in my first term as a legislator, and he was a champion for Northwest Florida and the values we hold so deeply. Brittany and I send our thoughts and prayers to the Evers family.”

The office of Representative Jay Trumbull released the following statement earlier today regarding his appointment to the Florida Defense Support Task Force.
“Today, State Representative Jay Trumbull announced that House Speaker Richard Corcoran has appointed him to the Florida Defense Support Task Force. The group’s mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance Florida’s military missions and installations. Trumbull’s appointment is effective immediately and will run through November of 2018.
“‘Florida plays a proud and strategic role in our nation’s defense,’ said Trumbull. ‘Our military installations are key economic drivers across the state, particularly in the Panhandle, and I’m honored to be a part of this task force. I look forward to this opportunity to help make sure a Florida installation won’t be subject to a Base Realignment and Closure Action.’
“Florida’s 20 major military installations have an annual economic impact of $73 billion and more than 750,000 jobs. Working with military leaders to improve transportation access to bases and strengthened support for veterans and military families are among the group’s objectives.
“This year, the task force will oversee an update to its strategic plan for protecting the state’s military installations. The plan was initially drafted in 2012 and most recently updated in March of 2016. Last year, it also published the 2016 Florida Military Friendly Guide, a summary of Florida laws that benefit active duty, National Guard, and reserve service members and families that was distributed throughout the state.

Tallahassee, Fla. — Yesterday, State Representative Jay Trumbull’s office released the statement below following House passage of H.B. 7085:
Today, the Florida House of Representatives passed House Bill 7085, which will increase workers’ compensation benefits for injured workers while decreasing insurance premiums for employers. The legislation, sponsored by State Representative Jay Trumbull, will promote job creation and protect existing jobs by addressing the 14.5 percent workers’ compensation premium increase approved by the Office of Insurance Regulation.
“As a small business owner myself, I know that the cost of workers’ compensation insurance is at the top of the list of things we have to get right,” said Trumbull. “Skyrocketing workers comp rates won’t just keep small businesses from hiring more workers. It will also cause job terminations and layoffs.”
Trumbull continued: “We have worked hard on this bill that will protect Florida jobs for tens of thousands of people. Every time government puts a requirement in place—another piece of paperwork or another insurance mandate or another license or fee—it not only hurts the owner of the business, it hurts employees, their families, and the entire community. It certainly hurts the person who may not get hired in the first place. I’m glad to say that with this workers’ comp bill, we’ve taken an important step toward making sure Florida stays one of the best places in the country to do business.”
