The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 5-7 p.m. about proposed safety improvements on State Road (S.R.) 535 (Kissimmee Vineland Road) at the intersections with Lake Bryan Beach Boulevard and Vistana Drive. The hearing will be held at the Rosen Jewish Community Center (JCC) on Apopka-Vineland Road.
SunRail train tours wrap up this weekend with one final open house before new service starts the end of July. It’s happening Saturday, June 30 at the downtown Kissimmee SunRail/Amtrak Station at 320 Pleasant Street. The Florida Lottery announces that Mao Ni, of Kissimmee, claimed the $550,000 LUCKY MONEY™ jackpot from the January 12, 2018, drawing at Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee, two weeks after his 39th birthday.
Ni chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $403,449.10. He purchased his winning LUCKY MONEY Quick Pick ticket from Publix, located at 2338 East Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee. The retailer received a bonus commission of $1,000 for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.
The next LUCKY MONEY drawing will be held tonight, January 23, 2018, at 11:15 p.m. ET, with a $650,000 jackpot. The LUCKY MONEY drawings are broadcast on 17 carrier stations throughout the state. TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement regarding last night’s police shootings:
“Late last night, I spoke to Kissimmee Police Chief O’Dell after learning of the murder of Officer Matt Baxter and the shooting of Sergeant Sam Howard, who was gravely injured. We ask everyone to continue praying for the families of the Kissimmee officers as well as Officers Michael Fox and Kevin Jarrell of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office who were also shot in the line of duty last night.
“This horrific violence against law enforcement will not be tolerated, and as Attorney General I will continue to ensure those who commit violence against our law enforcement officers are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
“Our thoughts and prayers are also with the two Pennsylvania Highway Patrol Troopers who were shot Friday night. Brave men and women throughout our country risk their lives each day to protect us and keep our children safe, and as a country we must do everything we can to support them.”
The Florida Lottery announces that Donald Williams, 56, of Kissimmee, claimed a $3 million top prize in the $600,000,000 GOLD RUSH Scratch-Off game at Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.
Williams chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $2,227,988.72. He purchased his winning ticket from Publix, located at 3839 Pleasant Hill Road in Kissimmee. The retailer will receive a $6,000 bonus commission for selling the winning Scratch-Off ticket.
The $20 Scratch-Off game, $600,000,000 GOLD RUSH launched in September 2014. The overall odds of winning are 1-in-2.95.
Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, comprising approximately 68 percent of ticket sales and generating more than $784 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) in fiscal year 2016-17.
