The Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition, a group of statewide associations and small business owners, supporting the urgency behind pro-growth tax reform to help businesses grow and create jobs, which will lead to a healthier, more secure economy.
The U.S. House of Representatives today introduced legislation to help America continue to flourish as a great nation. We can do better by updating our outdated tax code and the coalition urges swift passage of tax reform this year.
“We commend the U.S. House for taking the necessary steps to reform our 30-year old tax code today,” said Julio Fuentes, President & CEO of the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “We are behind the Florida Congressional delegation, across party lines, to push for tax reform this year and urge the public to do the same.”
“Our U.S. economy has been operating under the same tax code since Ronald Reagan was president, 30 years ago,” said Amanda Prater, small business owner in Tallahassee, Florida. “Small businesses represent 99.7 percent of U.S. employers and our elected officials should continue to protect the free market by passing comprehensive tax reform this year.”
“Yours truly, a blue dog Democrat supporting GOP tax reform. We are in the land of political unknowns on many issues, however tax reform is a no-brainer and should pass with flying colors this year,” said Barney Bishop, President & CEO of Barney Bishop Consulting, LLC. “As a small business owner and consumer advocate, I fight for my clients’ success which is largely inhibited by our 30-year old tax code. Support tax reform across the aisle this year and urge your officials to do the same.”

Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Encourages Congress to Pass the New GOP Tax Reform Plan
Florida small businesses will greatly benefit from lower tax rates
The Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition of Florida commend our congressional members and the White House for coming together in agreement of a comprehensive pro-growth tax reform plan.
A new poll conducted by the American Action Network indicated 73 percent of Americans say passing tax reform should be a top priority for Congress.
“This poll is very telling, not only for Florida’s small business community, but for every citizen in the U.S.,” said Julio Fuentes, President and CEO of the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “We must consider the recent hurricane damage and flooding in Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico and how tax reform will put more money back into hard-working Americans’ pockets. This will help rebuild infrastructure and help rebuild communities. Speaker Ryan, Chairman Brady and Congressman Curbelo, please keep up the great work. We must see tax reform pass this year.”
“As a blue dog Democrat people often wonder where I stand on certain issues. Yesterday’s announcement from Speaker Ryan and other members of Congress is a true sign of hope for the much-needed replacement of our nation’s 30-year old tax code,” said Barney Bishop, small business owner, Main Street Growth and Opportunity Steering Committee Member and Immediate Past President of the Associated Industries of Florida. “The 20-25 percent lower business rate will benefit our nation tremendously and I am glad to see the Senate, House and White House in agreement on the revamped tax reform plan.”
The Main Street Growth and Opportunity Coalition Florida members strongly urge lawmakers in Washington D.C. to pass our national budget, so tax reform can be enacted this year. The risk of delaying this policy, yet again, will put Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico’s storm recovery at risk – not to mention discourage continued economic success nationwide. We are getting closer, but need to come across the finish line.

“For years constituents, business leaders, and people from all walks of life have been demanding tax reform. Today’s discussion is yet another affirmation of that call to action. As a business owner myself, I know how badly these reforms are needed and look forward to getting this issue across the finish line with my colleagues in Congress. Americans need relief now.”
Attendees discussed the challenges they face as small business owners and leaders, and the need for elected officials in Washington, D.C. to support policies to help advance Florida businesses.
“I’d like to thank Congressman Yoho for joining us and listening to our thoughts on why comprehensive tax reform is a critical factor for both the success of small businesses and the success of our country,” said Tom Williams, owner of TMT Auto Clinic and Chair of the Putnam County Republican Executive Committee. “We are pleased to support the Congressman’s efforts in working enact pro-growth tax reform as soon as possible.”
