Contractors are starting repairs on the State Road (S.R.) 40 (Granada Boulevard) bridge over the Halifax River in Ormond Beach this week. The improvements in this project include installation of a post-tensioning support system and minor concrete repairs to Pier 8, located just west of the channel.
All work will be done behind the fender system to allow the channel to remain open at all times. The project will not impact the boat ramps, parks or piers at the west end of the bridge. Boat traffic is asked to use caution, and pedestrians need to be alert as equipment will be in the area.
To facilitate the work, contractor CMA Corporation will build a coffer dam around the pier. The $1.75 million improvement project is expected to take about nine months to complete.
