The family of Markeis McGlockton held a press conference at the Pinellas County Criminal Justice Center today to reiterate their call for the prosecution of Michael Drejka and the repeal of Stand Your Ground laws. Democratic Attorney General candidate Sean Shaw appeared with the family and offered the following statement:
“Stand Your Ground laws are bad policy and have deadly consequences. That is why as a State Legislator, I have consistently voted against Stand Your Ground legislation and why as Attorney General of Florida, I will do everything in power to push the Florida State legislature to fully repeal this misguided law. At this very moment, murderers are being protected by the Stand Your Ground Law. When I’m Attorney General, the ground that these murderers stand on will collapse.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Markeis McGlockton. What they have gone through is unimaginable. May God grant them the grace to weather this storm and the strength to endure these difficult times.”
