National Rail Safety week is September 23-29
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Four Rail Office is kicking off a rail safety initiative, Be Rail Smart, in conjunction with National Rail Safety week September 23 – 29. The goal of the Be Rail Smart initiative is to reduce the number of incidents on railroad tracks.
The locally focused and easily sharable educational materials are complementary to Operation Lifesaver, a national non-profit public information program dedicated to rail safety.
Materials developed for Be Rail Smart include a series of videos that can be accessed now by clicking here. The recommended audiences and title of the videos are as follows:
New Drivers: “What not to do on the tracks”
Young Adults: “A race you won’t win”
Kids and Teenagers: “The Mile”
Adults: “My Baby”, “Hide and Seek” and “From a mile away”
Banners and brochures will be available at Tri-Rail stations in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties during Rail Safety Week. These and other educational materials also will be distributed next week at selected schools within one mile of the South Florida Rail corridor in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
