State Senator Linda Stewart (D-Orlando) presented and passed SB 944 Land Acquisition Trust Fund through its first committee. This legislation will allocate $100 million annually to the Florida Forever Trust Fund for the preservation of sensitive lands throughout the state.
“A favorable outcome in this committee is the crucial first step in providing much needed guaranteed funding to the Florida Forever Trust Fund. I am happy to have received bipartisan support on this bill as it is important that we work together to preserve one of our State’s most valuable assets. It has been impossible to secure funding every year from general funds and this bill does not set a ceiling, but sets a guarantee that there will be $100 million in the fund to purchase projects on the vetted list of the properties endangered in Florida”
Stewart’s SB944 received a unanimous vote of approval at its first stop in the Environment and Natural Resources committee on Tuesday, March 12th. The legislation is now referenced to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Environment, and General Government.
