CFO Jimmy Patronis: Insurance Fraud Charges Filed in Williams Murder Case

Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis’ office charged Denise Williams with three counts of insurance fraud greater than $100,000, all first-degree felonies. In May, CFO Patronis directed his Division of Investigative and Forensic Services to investigate life insurance fraud relating to Mike Williams’ disappearance nearly two decades ago. POWERBALL® jackpot rises to $247 million

The jackpot for Saturday’s POWERBALL® drawing has reached an estimated $247 million; the largest in the nation. The POWERBALL jackpot has rolled 14 times since the June 20, 2018, jackpot was won, generating more than $17.2 million in contributions to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF). PSC Telecom Report Shows Competition Drives Consumer Choice

Following the national trend, Florida consumers continued to shift from landline telephone service to wireless and cable/VoIP services in 2017. Data also indicates that residential migration might be increasing slightly.  Carriers reported about 17 percent fewer wireline access lines in Florida than in 2016, according to the Florida Public Service Commission’s (PSC) annual Report on the Status of Competition in the Telecommunications Industry. Gov. Scott Provides an Additional $400,000 to Lee County to Clean Local Waterways

Governor Rick Scott announced that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is providing an additional $400,000 to Lee County to clean up impacts related to red tide, for a total of $1.1 million in grant funding. Under the direction of the emergency order issued by Governor Scott last month, DEP launched a $3 million grant program to help local governments clean up waterways affected by harmful algal blooms.
