CRC Committee Extends Recommended Public Proposal Deadline to October 6

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) Rules and Administration Committee recommended Friday, October 6 as the filing deadline for public proposals to be considered by the CRC. The recommended deadline extended the previously recommended deadline of September 22 due to the impact of Hurricane Irma on Florida.

CRC Chairman Carlos Beruff, said, “The CRC has already received a historic amount of public input and we want to ensure that all Floridians interested in the CRC process have every opportunity to submit their proposals. The Rules and Administration Committee has recommended October 6 as the public proposal deadline to ensure that all proposals are given the consideration and review they deserve. Commissioners are actively reviewing the nearly 1,400 public proposals that have been received by the CRC to date.” 

The recommended October 6 deadline is subject to approval by a vote of the full commission. The next full commission meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 2 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM in Tallahassee. All public proposals received by the CRC are available online atflcrc.gov/Proposals/Public. 

The official CRC website (flcrc.gov) allows Floridians to create and submit proposed changes to the Florida Constitution by following these simple steps:

How to Submit a Proposed Constitutional Amendment

  1. Visit flcrc.gov
  2. New users must register for a free CRC Website Account by filling in the required fields and following the activation prompts
  3. Once logged into your account, click on the “Submit a Proposal” button on the upper right-hand side of the homepage
  4. Click on “Get Started” and then click on “Create a New Proposal” to submit a proposed change to the Florida Constitution using legal language
  5. Fill in the required fields and then submit the proposed constitutional amendment
  6. Proposals may take up to three (3) business days to be posted on the CRC website in accordance with the moderation policy

NOTE: Proposals must be typed within the application. Users cannot upload attachments. Public proposals may also be submitted to the CRC by other means, including mail and email. Visit flcrc.gov for contact information.

ABOUT THE FLORIDA CONSTITUTION REVISION COMMISSION (CRC)

Once every 20 years, Florida’s Constitution provides for the creation of a 37-member revision commission for the purpose of reviewing Florida’s Constitution and proposing changes for voter consideration. The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) meets for approximately one year, traveling the State of Florida, identifying issues, performing research and possibly recommending changes to the Constitution. How to Submit a Proposed Constitutional Amendment Through FLCRC.GOV

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) released a new infographic showing the simple steps Floridians can take to submit a proposed constitutional amendment through flcrc.gov.
CRC Chairman Carlos Beruff, said, “The recommended September 22nd deadline to submit a proposed constitutional amendment to the CRC is a month away and we encourage all interested Floridians to submit their proposals as soon as possible. The submission tool on flcrc.gov offers a simple, streamlined process to create and share proposed constitutional amendments with the CRC. Just follow the steps in our new infographic and make sure your voice is heard during this historic process!”
 

The CRC is considering Friday, September 22 as the filing deadline for public proposals. The recommended deadline is subject to approval by a vote of the full commission. Gov. Rick Scott Appoints Carlos Beruff as Chairman to Florida Constitution Revision Commission

Governor Rick Scott announced today the appointment of Carlos Beruff as Chairman to the Florida Constitution Revision Commission (CRC). The other 14 members appointed by the Governor to the 37–member Commission will be announced in the coming days. The CRC convenes every 20 years to review Florida’s Constitution and propose potential changes to be approved by Florida voters. Any potential changes to the constitution proposed by the Florida Constitution Revision Commission will be on the ballot to be voted on by Florida residents in November 2018.
Governor Scott said, “I am proud today to appoint Carlos Beruff as Chairman of the Florida Constitution Revision Commission. Carlos is a lifelong Floridian who has lived the American dream in our great state. A son of Cuban immigrants, Carlos started out as a small business owner and over three decades, grew his company and provided jobs to thousands of Floridians along the way. My goal for the CRC is to fight for policies that will ensure a strong future for Florida and I know Carlos also shares this vision. As we undertake this historic review, I am hopeful that this Commission will propose policies that build a legacy upon which the families and businesses in our great state will thrive for generations to come.”

The son of Cuban immigrants, Carlos Beruff is a native Floridian whose business sense and hard work have allowed him to build an incredibly successful career in both his private business and the public sector. At age 22, Mr. Beruff started his first business and over time, Medallion Home became one of the most respected companies in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. During his more than 35-year career as a business owner, Mr. Beruff has built more than 2,000 homes and developed, owned and managed dozens of other properties, employing thousands of people in the process.
In addition to his work in the private sector, Mr. Beruff has volunteered his business experience, giving back to his community to bring real solutions to the problems facing Floridians. Mr. Beruff has previously served on the Board of Trustees of the State College of Florida (SCF) and the Southwest Florida Water Management District, helping these organizations to cut government bureaucracy and wasteful spending – saving millions in taxpayer dollars. Mr. Beruff also served as the Chairman for Governor Scott’s Commission on Healthcare and Hospital Funding. Currently, Mr. Beruff is a commissioner on the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority Board, a position he was appointed to in 2008 and reappointed to by Governor Rick Scott.
Mr. Beruff is a member of the National Home Builders Association and the Home Builders Association Manatee-Sarasota. He has served on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement Sarasota/Manatee and the Boys and Girls Club of Manatee.
