CRC Committee Recommends Sept. 22 as Public Proposal Filing Deadline

The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) Rules and Administration Committee today recommended Friday, September 22 as the filing deadline for public proposals to be considered by the CRC. The recommended deadline is subject to approval by a vote of the full commission. The next full commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19.
CRC Chairman Carlos Beruff, said, “The CRC encourages all interested Floridians to submit their proposed constitutional amendments as soon as possible. While the recommended September 22 deadline is more than a month away, Commissioners are already reviewing public proposals that have been shared and will be considering them during upcoming committee meetings. We want to ensure that all proposals submitted by Floridians are given the consideration and review they deserve.”
The official CRC website (flcrc.gov) allows Floridians to create and submit proposed changes to the Florida Constitution by following these simple steps:
How to Submit a Proposed Constitutional Amendment

  1. Visit flcrc.gov
  2. New users must register for a free CRC Website Account by filling in the required fields and following the activation prompts
  3. Once logged into your account, click on the “Submit a Proposal” button on the upper right-hand side of the homepage
  4. Click on “Get Started” and then click on “Create a New Proposal” to submit a proposed change to the Florida Constitution using legal language
  5. Fill in the required fields and then submit the proposed constitutional amendment
  6. Proposals may take up to three (3) business days to be posted on the CRC website in accordance with the moderation policy

NOTE: Proposals must be typed within the application. Users cannot “copy & paste” text or upload attachments. Public proposals may also be submitted to the CRC by other means, including mail and email. Visit flcrc.gov for contact information.

Once every twenty years, Florida’s Constitution provides for the creation of a thirty-seven member revision commission for the purpose of reviewing Florida’s Constitution and proposing changes for voter consideration. The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) meets for approximately one year, traveling the State of Florida, identifying issues, performing research and possibly recommending changes to the Constitution. CRC Chairman Carlos Beruff Announces Committee Assignments

Chairman Carlos Beruff today announced committee assignments for the 2017-2018 Constitution Revision Commission (CRC). According to the Rules of the Commission, the CRC consists of 10 standing substantive committees and two standing procedural committees.
Chairman Carlos Beruff, said, “I am excited to announce committee assignments for the CRC, including the appointment of chairs and vice chairs for each committee. Establishing committees for the CRC means we can move forward on developing proposals that will benefit Florida families, businesses and students. Each Commissioner brings a unique set of talents and experience to this process. Committee assignments are based on preferences expressed by individual Commissioners while also ensuring each committee consists of a group of Commissioners with diverse backgrounds and complementary strengths.”
Committee assignments, including the chairs and vice chairs of each committee, are outlined below. The CRC committee meeting schedule will be developed by the Rules and Administration Committee at a future date. All committee meetings will be publicly noticed in advance and posted on flcrc.gov.

Constitution Revision Commission Postpones June 22 Public Hearing in Central Florida

The Constitution Revision Commission today announced that a public hearing tentatively scheduled for June 22nd in Central Florida has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts. The public hearing will be rescheduled for a future date.
Chairman Carlos Beruff, said, “We are actively working to reschedule this public hearing for a future date. I believe it is important that we schedule public hearings on dates which allow a majority of Commissioners to attend, especially considering that hundreds of Floridians take time out of their personal schedules to have the opportunity to speak before a full Commission.”
The Constitution Revision Commission will announce future public hearing dates and locations as soon as possible. All public hearings and meetings are noticed on the official CRC website, flcrc.gov. Public Meeting of the Constitution Revision Commission in Orlando

The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) will hold a public meeting tomorrow, June 6 beginning at 9:00 AM at the University of Central Florida (UCF). At the meeting, the CRC will consider the Rules of the Commission.
The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed by The Florida Channel on www.TheFloridaChannel.org. Media wishing to attend are requested to bring their press credentials.

ICYMI: 400 Floridians Attend CRC Public Hearing in Tampa

Approximately 400 Floridians attended a public hearing held by the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) on May 17 in Tampa at Hillsborough Community College’s (HCC) Dale Mabry Campus as part of its, “Floridians Speak, We Listen” statewide tour. At HCC, more than 150 individual Floridians requested to speak before the CRC. The hearing went nearly two hours past the noticed end time of 8:00 PM. All Floridians who attended the public hearing and wanted to speak were given an opportunity to be heard.

Members of the media wishing to attend are asked to bring their press credentials. The event will also be live-streamed by The Florida Channel on www.TheFloridaChannel.org.

CRC Encourages Attendance at Public Meeting

The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) encourages interested members of the public to attend a meeting of the Rules Working Group to convene on Wednesday, May 17 from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM at Hillsborough Community College’s (HCC) Dale Mabry Campus.
Members of the public wishing to provide comment regarding the Rules of the Commission will have an opportunity to speak between 11:00 AM – noon. Due to the time that may be necessary to deliberate the Rules of the Commission, the public comment portion of the meeting will end at noon. Only comment related to the Rules of the Commission will be considered during the Rules Working Group Meeting. Speakers will be asked to fill out an appearance form.  Time for each speaker will be determined at the direction of the Rules Working Group based on the number of requests to speak.
Those wishing to provide comment regarding proposed constitutional amendments may do so before the full commission at its public hearing scheduled at the same location that evening from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
Meetings will be live-streamed by The Florida Channel on www.TheFloridaChannel.org. Media wishing to attend are requested to bring their press credentials.

CRC Announces Meeting of Rules Working Group

The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) announces a meeting of the Rules Working Group to convene on Wednesday, May 17 from 11:00 AM–4:00 PM at Hillsborough Community College (HCC). The Rules Working Group meeting is scheduled prior to the CRC’s public hearing at the same location from 5:00 PM–8:00 PM.
Members of the public wishing to specifically provide comment regarding the Rules of the Commission will be given an opportunity to speak at the direction of the Rules Working Group. Only comment related to the Rules of the Commission will be considered during the Rules Working Group Meeting. Those wishing to provide comment regarding proposed constitutional amendments are requested to attend the public hearing of the full commission scheduled from 5:00 PM–8:00 PM.
Meetings will be live-streamed by The Florida Channel on www.TheFloridaChannel.org. Media wishing to attend are requested to bring their press credentials.

Floridians make their voices heard at Gulf Coast State College (GCSC) in Panama City.

Approximately 100 Floridians attended a public hearing held by the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) on May 3 in Panama City at Gulf Coast State College (GCSC) as part of its, “Floridians Speak, We Listen” statewide tour. At GCSC, more than 50 individual Floridians requested to speak before the CRC. All Floridians who attended the public hearing and wanted to speak were given an opportunity to be heard.
