Central Citrus Community Center Named PSC Helping Hand

Posted on October 2, 2018

“Where people meet friends,” the popular theme of the Central Citrus Community Center, is apropos for how much seniors are appreciated. Their willingness to host a recent Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) National Lifeline Awareness Week event helped the PSC meet new friends and earned the Center the PSC’s third 2018 Helping Hand Award.

“It’s important to provide helpful information to our senior community and to keep them up-to-speed on utility issues,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “The PSC thanks the Citrus County Senior Community Center for helping us highlight Lifeline Awareness Week and helping their clients learn about the discounted communications program, fraud prevention tips, and how to better manage their utility bills.”

Each quarter, the PSC highlights a partner agency or organization whose clients are eligible for the federal Lifeline telephone/broadband discount program or need help reducing energy and water bills. Through these PSC Helping Hand partnerships, the Commission shares information to help consumers avoid scams and stretch their resources to meet monthly bills.

“Our Center’s atmosphere is friendly and we strive to bring fun, laughter, and companionship into our senior citizens’ lives,” said Janice Hale, Center Supervisor. “We enjoyed helping the PSC promote Lifeline Awareness Week and know many of our clients can benefit from the Lifeline program and other helpful information about energy conservation and fraud protection.”
