Today, Governor Rick Scott joined members of the Clewiston and Belle Glade communities to highlight his proposed $50 million investment to expedite repairs for the federally operated Herbert Hoover Dike at Lake Okeechobee. This funding is part of the Governor’s historic $1.7 billion recommended investment for Florida’s environment and will build on the $50 million in this year’s state budget to kick-start critical repairs to the Herbert Hoover Dike. Governor Scott is the first governor in Florida history to invest state money into this critical federal project. In October, the Governor secured the commitment of White House Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney to accelerate the completion of repairs to Florida’s Herbert Hoover Dike. Gov. Scott to Tell Louisiana Business Owners to Move to Florida
Governor Rick Scott today announced he will be leading a domestic trade mission to Louisiana this week to convince more businesses to move to Florida. During the trade mission, Governor Scott will meet with Louisiana companies to share how Florida is making it easier for families and job creators to succeed and why they should consider moving their operations to Florida.
Governor Scott said, “While we are fighting to cut taxes and make it harder for politicians to raise taxes in Florida, Louisiana is doing the exact opposite. In fact, for nearly two years, Governor John Bel Edwards has been continuously working to raise taxes instead of reaching a long-term solution for their state’s financial crisis. Passing the buck to Louisiana families and business owners, who are already overburdened by high personal income and business taxes, is clearly not working. Louisiana’s unemployment rate is larger than the national average and their job growth rate is more than three times lower than Florida’s.
“Louisiana leaders should look to Florida to see how to achieve economic growth. Florida faced a $4 billion budget deficit when I became Governor in 2010, but over the past seven years, we have completely turned around Florida’s economy without raising taxes. With no income tax, a low business tax and a business-friendly environment, Florida is the perfect location for Louisiana business owners and families who want to keep more of their hard-earned money. I look forward to sharing this message during our domestic trade mission this week and ultimately welcoming more Louisiana job creators to Florida.”

As part of his ongoing trade mission in Israel, Governor Rick Scott yesterday presented Wix, a website-building platform headquartered in Israel, with a Governor’s Business Ambassador Award for creating 100 jobs since opening their first Florida location in Miami in 2014.

As part of his ongoing trade mission in Israel, Governor Rick Scott recognized the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday between Florida-based Venture Hive and Tel Aviv-based AGW, an Israeli technology commercialization company. As part of his ongoing trade mission in Israel, Governor Rick Scott recognized the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday between the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the Israeli Trauma Society. This agreement continues the partnership between the Israeli Trauma Society and the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital which has provided training to approximately 90 percent of Israel trauma surgeons. As part of his ongoing trade mission in Israel, today Governor Rick Scott recognized the first class of graduates from the Florida Israel Business Accelerator (FIBA). FIBA is a Florida-based technology accelerator launched in 2016 to establish and grow Israeli and Florida tech ventures in the Tampa Bay Area. As a result of participating in the Florida Israel Business Accelerator program, Israeli company StemRad recently established their U.S. operations in Tampa. Under Governor Scott, the State of Florida has invested $1.4 million in this program.
Governor Scott said, “Innovative partnerships like the Florida Israel Business Accelerator are helping bring global businesses to Florida, which ultimately leads to more job opportunities for Florida families. I was proud to recognize the first class of participants today and look forward to seeing StemRad’s success in the Tampa Bay area.”
