Gov. Scott: DEP to Provide $3 Million for Red Tide on Florida’s East Coast

Governor Rick Scott today announced that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is offering $3 million in grants to St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties to help mitigate the effects of red tide. Gov. Scott Reappoints Two to Technology Advisory Council

Governor Rick Scott today announced the reappointment of Susan Amat and Allen Ginder to the Technology Advisory Council.

Amat, 43, of Coral Gables, is the founder and chief executive officer of Venture Hive. She received her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate degree from the University of Miami. Amat is reappointed for a term beginning October 1, 2018, and ending June 30, 2022.

Ginder, 51, of Jacksonville, is the Florida public sector director for Avaya. Ginder received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. He is reappointed for a term beginning October 1, 2018, and ending June 30, 2022.

Governor Rick Scott today reiterated the State of Florida’s commitment and readiness to deploy any needed resources or funding to communities impacted by naturally-occurring red tide. Governor Scott’s announcement today follows confirmation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) that red tide is present in low to medium concentrations in an isolated area of the Atlantic Ocean off Palm Beach County. Anti-Human Trafficking Summit

Governor Rick Scott today spoke at the sixth annual Anti-Human Trafficking Summit in Orlando. Governor Scott highlighted $6.2 million in new funding in this year’s budget to provide services for victims of human trafficking, as well as the seven pieces of legislation he has signed since 2012 which help fight this horrific crime by establishing harsher penalties for human traffickers and providing enhanced services for survivors.
