Traffic to be Diverted off Westbound I-4 near Florida’s Turnpike on Nights of July 13, 16, 17 & 18

Posted on July 12, 2018

To complete demolition of a recently replaced overpass near Florida’s Turnpike, I-4 Ultimate crews will be diverting traffic off westbound Interstate 4 (I-4) from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. on July 13, 16, 17 and 18.

Motorists will exit westbound I-4 at Conroy Road (Exit 78) and use either Vineland Road or Conroy Road to reenter westbound I-4 at the Kirkman Road (State Road 435) interchange.

In addition to diverting westbound I-4 traffic the exit ramps to Florida’s Turnpike (Exit 77) and northbound (75B) and southbound (75A) Kirkman Road (State Road 435), and the on-ramps from Conroy Road and Florida’s Turnpike will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the nights of July 12–13, 15–16, 16–17 and 17–18.

A handout illustrating the detour routes is available online to view or download at: fdot.tips/WBI4divert.

Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.

The I-4 Ultimate project is rebuilding 21 miles of Interstate 4 (I-4) from west of Kirkman Road in Orange County to east of State Road 434 in Seminole County, adding two new dynamic tolled Express Lanes in each direction, replacing more than 140 bridges, reconfiguring 15 major interchanges and reconstructing the entire roadway.

Eastbound I-4 On-Ramp from Universal Boulevard to Close for Five Months

Posted on February 14, 2018

The eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) on-ramp from Universal Boulevard will close for five months, beginning around 2 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 19.

A detour map is available to view or download online at: fdot.tips/universal. The detour for this on-going closure is to use the eastbound I-4 on-ramp from Kirkman Road (State Road 435).

The closure of the eastbound I-4 on-ramp from Universal Boulevard allows construction crews to continue building the new I-4 and Kirkman Road interchange. A lot of work already has been completed on the west side of the interchange, including new westbound I-4 exit ramps to southbound and northbound Kirkman Road. Crews are focusing on improvements planned for the east side of the interchange. Closing the Universal Boulevard on-ramp will help crew members work safely and allow the work to move ahead efficiently.

Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.

For questions, please contact Steve Olson, communications manager, at (386) 943-5479 / [email protected] or David Parks, I-4 ultimate public information officer, at [email protected].

Nightly eastbound I-4 rolling roadblocks from Kirkman Rd. to SR-408 scheduled for March 31-April 2

Posted on March 30, 2017

FDOT I-4
Rolling roadblocks on eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) from Kirkman Road (State Road 435) to State Road 408 (S.R. 408) are scheduled as soon as 12 a.m. until 6 a.m. for three consecutive nights beginning on Friday, March 31.
The eastbound I-4 exit ramp to South Street and eastbound S.R. 408 ramp to eastbound I-4 will be closed each night in conjunction with the rolling roadblocks to accommodate construction. The South Street exit will be closed as soon as 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. and the S.R. 408 ramp will be closed as soon as 12 a.m. until 6 a.m. Detour routes for both of these ramp closures are available online to download or view at: http://fdot.tips/EBI4rolling.
The eastbound I-4 rolling roadblocks will begin near Kirkman Road and end at S.R. 408. Multiple rolling roadblocks are scheduled to occur each night. Each rolling roadblock will create a 30-minute window for crews to place girders over eastbound I-4 to widen the S.R. 408 overpass.
Eastbound I-4 entrance ramps between the Kirkman Road and S.R. 408 interchanges will be temporarily blocked. As the rolling roadblock passes each interchange, law enforcement officers will reopen its entrance ramp. In total, nine eastbound I-4 entrance ramps will be temporarily closed during the rolling roadblocks. View or download an online map of the temporary on-ramp closures at: http://fdot.tips/EBI4rolling.
Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.

Posted on March 6, 2017

FDOT Header
A traffic shift of southbound Kirkman Road (State Road 435) is scheduled for Thursday, March 9, as a second new bridge opens at the Kirkman Road and Interstate 4 (I-4) interchange.
Motorists should expect multiple lane closures during overnight hours on Wednesday, March 8, as the southbound lanes of Kirkman Road are shifted to a newly-constructed bridge over westbound I-4. The traffic shift is scheduled to be ready for morning commuters on Thursday, March 9.
An illustration of the southbound Kirkman Road traffic shift is available online at http://fdot.tips/SBKrkmn.
The traffic pattern of southbound Kirkman Road is also changing after crossing over westbound I-4. See illustration in above link. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when navigating this new temporary traffic pattern.
In November 2016, I-4 Ultimate crews opened the project’s first new bridge to motorists — the current northbound Kirkman Road bridge over westbound I-4. As part of the I-4 Ultimate project, more than 140 bridges will be widened, added or replaced when the project is completed in 2021.
Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.
