Commissioner Adam H. Putnam Opens Second Camp Dedicated to Wounded Veterans
Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam today opened the second camp dedicated to providing outdoor, recreational opportunities at no cost to wounded veterans who participate in Operation Outdoor Freedom.
Peace River Camp, located in Arcadia and managed by the Florida Forest Service, consists of: a bunkhouse with three rooms and 20 beds, a screened outdoor kitchen, a fire pit, a dining area, and a restroom facility. The camp is located in Peace River State Forest, which spans 5,000 acres. The camp will be used by eligible veterans participating in Operation Outdoor Freedom events.
“I want Florida to be the most veteran friendly state in the nation, and Operation Outdoor Freedom is one small way we can show our appreciation for the men and women who have given so much for our country,” stated Commissioner Adam H. Putnam. “This is a permanent commitment from the State of Florida to the men and women who put it all on the line to make our liberties and our freedoms, that we so often take for granted, even possible.”
Since 2011, Operation Outdoor Freedom has hosted 438 outdoor events, and 3,368 veterans have participated in the program.

Commissioner Adam Putnam to Open Second Camp Dedicated to Wounded Veterans

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam recognized the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service’s Operation Outdoor Freedom program during today’s meeting of the Governor and Cabinet.
Operation Outdoor Freedom is administered by the Florida Forest Service and provides wounded veterans with recreational outdoor activities, such as guided canoe rides, hunts and fishing trips, free of charge. The program has hosted more than 3,200 veterans at more than 400 outdoor events.

Wounded Veterans Invited to Register for Free Lobstering, Scalloping, Kayaking Trips
Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam invites Florida’s wounded veterans to register for upcoming Operation Outdoor Freedom events, including a lobstering trip out of Fort Lauderdale, a scalloping trip out of Steinhatchee and a kayaking trip on the Chipola River. Space is limited, so eligible veterans must visit OperationOutdoorFreedom.com to register for the free trips. Since Operation Outdoor Freedom was launched in 2011, more than 3,000 wounded veterans have participated in more than 400 hunting, fishing, boating and other recreational events at no cost.
“Operation Outdoor Freedom is a special way of connecting the natural resources and beauty our state is blessed with to the men and women of our armed services who have courageously sacrificed for our nation,” said Commissioner Adam H. Putnam. “It’s the least we can do for those who have done so much for us.”
The Florida Forest Service, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, organizes and hosts Operation Outdoor Freedom events where participants can fish, hunt, boat and more. Outdoor excursions are held regularly on state forests and private lands throughout Florida and are funded through private donations.
Participants will be drawn at random prior to the event and will be notified by email.
