Governor Scott and Florida Cabinet Issue Resolution Recognizing Veterans Day

Recognizes More Than 60 Florida Veterans
with Governor’s Veterans Service Medal


During a meeting of the Florida Cabinet today, Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet issued the following resolution recognizing November 11, 2017 as Veterans Day. Governor Scott also recognized more than 60 veterans with the Governor’s Veterans Service Medal for their service to Florida and the nation.
Governor Rick Scott said, “I am proud to issue this resolution recognizing Veteran’s Day as we honor those who have served our great nation. Florida is committed to being the most military and veteran friendly state in the nation. As a veteran myself, I think it is so important to thank our courageous veterans for their service defending our country’s freedom.”
Colonel Glenn Sutphin, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, said, “On this Veterans Day, we ask you to pause, reflect and thank our state’s more than 1.5 million veterans who have defended the principles upon which our country was founded. From our network of award-winning state veterans’ homes to connecting veterans to their earned benefits and services, Florida is the most veteran-friendly state in the nation.”

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, for more than two centuries, individuals from all walks of life have taken up arms and sworn an oath to support and defend the principles upon which our country was founded; and
WHEREAS, throughout our history, courageous men and women have donned the uniform of our Armed Forces and built a noble tradition of faithful and dedicated service to our Nation; and
WHEREAS, Veterans Day has been set aside as both a national and state holiday to honor those American patriots who answered the call of duty, preserving our freedoms and often making the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, we can never fully repay our debt of gratitude to those heroic men and women who served, were wounded, or even died in battle; and
WHEREAS, the unwavering commitment of our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and Merchant Mariners has preserved our freedoms and saved millions around the world from tyranny; and
WHEREAS, we continue to draw inspiration from the heroism and dedication of those who currently serve and sacrifice for the cause of liberty and justice; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting that all Floridians honor America’s military veterans, including Florida’s more than 1.5 million living veterans, through whose selfless service and sacrifice we enjoy freedom and liberty.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida do hereby recognize November 11, 2017, as

VETERANS DAY

and call upon all Floridians to honor the contributions of current and former members of the United States Armed Services.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida encourage citizens to participate in local Veterans Day activities honoring the men and women who have stood watch over America.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida have hereunto subscribed their names and have caused the Official Seal of the State of Florida to be hereunto affixed in the City of Tallahassee on this 7th day of November 2017.

Nelson-Rubio introduce resolution to honor Pulse victims

U.S. Sens. Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) today introduced a resolution in the Senate to honor the victims of the tragic shooting that took place at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando one year ago today.  A copy of the resolution is available here.

Attorney General Bondi Introduces Resolution Recognizing Uber’s Anti-Human Trafficking Efforts

Attorney General Pam Bondi today introduced a resolution at the meeting of the Florida Governor and Cabinet recognizing Uber’s efforts and initiatives to educate drivers to help prevent human trafficking.3.14.2017 resolution
“Governor Scott and the Florida Cabinet joined me today in recognizing Uber’s proactive efforts to fight human trafficking,” said Attorney General Bondi. “The company and its drivers, operating in more than 70 countries, are uniquely positioned to help identify and ultimately prevent human trafficking and can play a key role in the fight to stop traffickers across the globe. Today’s resolution commends Uber for their commitment to safety in the communities drivers serve and in doing their part to put an end to this horrific crime.”

Gov. Scott and Florida Cabinet Issue Resolution Recognizing Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day

During a meeting of the Florida Cabinet today, Governor Rick Scott and the Cabinet of the State of Florida issued a resolution recognizing March 30, 2017 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.
Governor Rick Scott said, “We must take every opportunity to recognize the brave men and women who served in our armed forces and defended our country. Florida is committed to being the most military and veteran friendly state in the nation and we must give back to those who sacrificed for our freedom.”
Colonel Glenn Sutphin, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, said, “Our country’s brave Vietnam Veterans stepped up to defend our country during a time where military service was underappreciated. Our troops kept faith and proudly served our great country. In Florida, we proudly welcomed them home 50 years ago and continue to honor their service today.”
WHEREAS, throughout our history, courageous men and women have donned the uniform of our Armed Forces and built a noble tradition of faithful and dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Defense is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War to thank and honor veterans of that war on behalf of a grateful nation; and
WHEREAS, more than 58,000 service members, including more than 1,900 from Florida, made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War, and 1,617 remain missing in action, including 56 from Florida; and
WHEREAS, the families and friends of missing service members continue to endure uncertainty concerning the fate of their loved ones who remain unaccounted for; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida is home to more than 506,000 Vietnam-era veterans; and
WHEREAS, the Sunshine State honors its Vietnam Veterans with the Florida Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Tallahassee, Vietnam War Veteran license plate, and high school diplomas for draftees unable to complete their education; and
WHEREAS, we can never fully repay our debt of gratitude to those historic men and women who served, were wounded, or even died in battle, and this presents the opportunity for the people of the Sunshine State to honor and thank our Vietnam Veterans for their service to our country. 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida do hereby recognize March 30, 2017 as 

WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS DAY 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida encourage citizens to participate in local Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day activities honoring the men and women who have stood watch over America.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida have hereunto subscribed their names and have caused the Official Seal of the State of Florida to be hereunto affixed in the City of Tallahassee on this 14th day of March 2017.

Attorney General Bondi Presents Resolution Recognizing Human Trafficking Awareness Month

Attorney General Pam Bondi today presented a resolution recognizing January 2017 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month at a meeting of the Governor and State Cabinet in Tallahassee.htawarenessmonth 1.24.2017
“I am dedicated to making Florida a zero-tolerance state for human trafficking and this Human Trafficking Awareness Month I am asking all Floridians to take an active role in the fight to end this form of modern-day slavery. Floridians should know how to spot a trafficking victim and who to contact to report the crime. I encourage everyone to take an active role and visit YouCanStopHT.com to learn how to identify a victim and report it,” said Attorney General Bondi.

At today’s Cabinet meeting Attorney General Bondi also awarded Floridians dedicated to making Florida a zero-tolerance state for human trafficking and helping victims recover.
The award recipients honored today are as follows:

  • Dr. Brook Bello, founder and CEO of More Too Life, Survivor Advocate of the Year;
  • Miami-Dade Assistant State Attorney Brenda Mezick, Prosecutor of the Year;
  • The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Community Advocate of the Year, represented by CEO Clara Reynolds; and
  • Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent Jeffrey Vash, Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

In addition to the Attorney General’s efforts through her Office of Statewide Prosecution to prosecute human trafficking crimes, Attorney General Bondi also chairs the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking. The Council builds on existing state and local partnerships working to combat human trafficking and serve victims. Law enforcement officers, prosecutors, legislators and experts in the fields of health, education and social services sit on the council.
