Traffic Shift
Traffic Shift on John Young Parkway at Sand Lake Road in Orange County
Drivers will encounter a traffic shift this week on John Young Parkway between Florida’s Turnpike and Commodity Circle/South Park Circle. Traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed outside lanes (see map below).
Because of the shift, the right turn lane from eastbound Sand Lake Road to southbound John Young Parkway will be open. In addition, the northernmost driveway to the Walmart shopping center will be re-opened.
The purpose of this traffic shift is to allow the contractor to work on the new “flyover” bridge for John Young Parkway over Sand Lake Road.
The work is part of a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project to widen and reconstruct State Road (S.R.) 482/Sand Lake Road from west of International Drive to east of Florida’s Turnpike.
Motorists are asked to use extra caution while driving in the area and be aware of the wider turning movements and relocated roadway markings (e.g., stop bars and pedestrian crosswalks) at the intersection.
Please note construction schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Media inquiries should be directed to the FDOT Communications Office at 386-943-5479 or [email protected].
Southbound John Young Parkway Traffic Shift
During the week of April 29, a traffic pattern change is expected on southbound State Road (S.R.) 423/John Young Parkway between S.R. 50/West Colonial Drive and Shader Road. The work is part of the department’s project to widen the road from four to six lanes.
The traffic shift will move southbound traffic east between Shader Road and Silver Star Road.
Electronic message boards and other signs will be used to direct traffic. Motorists are asked to be prepared for the changes and exercise extra caution when driving through the work zone.
Please note construction schedules may change due to weather or other circumstances. Updates will be available on the Florida Department of Transportation’s Central Florida website, CFLRoads.com.
Media inquiries should be directed to the FDOT Communications Office at 386-943-5479 or [email protected].
Traffic Shift Along John Young Parkway in Orlando
During the week of April 22, a traffic pattern change is expected on State Road (S.R.) 423/John Young Parkway between S.R. 50/West Colonial Drive and Shader Road. The work is part of the department’s widening project.
The traffic shift will affect northbound traffic. Initially, traffic between Technology Drive and Silver Star Road will be shifted west onto the existing southbound lanes. Once past Silver Star Road, northbound traffic will move back east onto the newly constructed temporary pavement until it transitions back to the existing configuration at Shader Road.
Electronic message boards and other signage will be used to direct traffic. Motorists are asked to be prepared for the changes and exercise extra caution when driving through the work zone.
Please note construction schedules may change due to weather or other circumstances. Electronic message boards will be used to alert motorists to lane closures and detours. Updates will be available on the FDOT’s Central Florida website CFLRoads.com.
Media inquiries should be directed to the FDOT Communications Office at 386-943-5479 or [email protected].
Eastbound I-4 Traffic Shift in Downtown Orlando Set for May 6-7
A traffic shift of eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) between South Street and Colonial Drive (State Road 50) is scheduled to take place overnight on Saturday, May 6.
The traffic shift is a major milestone for the I-4 Ultimate project as it shifts I-4 to newly constructed bridges in downtown Orlando. The eastbound I-4 traffic shift will move three lanes onto newly constructed, temporary bridges between eastbound and westbound I-4. An illustration of the eastbound I-4 traffic shift is available online at http://fdot.tips/EBI4shift.
During the traffic shift operation, motorists should expect multiple lane and ramp closures. The eastbound I-4 entrance ramps from westbound State Road 408 and Anderson Street will be closed from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. The eastbound I-4 exit ramp to Amelia Street will be closed from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. View the detour routes at http://fdot.tips/shiftdetours.
The new temporary bridges were constructed because of the lack of right-of-way space in the tight quarters of downtown Orlando. By moving I-4 traffic onto the temporary bridges, it gives I-4 Ultimate construction crews the opportunity to begin demolishing the existing eastbound I-4 bridges and constructing new bridges.
Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.
Traffic shift opens second new Kirkman Road bridge
A traffic shift of southbound Kirkman Road (State Road 435) is scheduled for Thursday, March 9, as a second new bridge opens at the Kirkman Road and Interstate 4 (I-4) interchange.
Motorists should expect multiple lane closures during overnight hours on Wednesday, March 8, as the southbound lanes of Kirkman Road are shifted to a newly-constructed bridge over westbound I-4. The traffic shift is scheduled to be ready for morning commuters on Thursday, March 9.
An illustration of the southbound Kirkman Road traffic shift is available online at http://fdot.tips/SBKrkmn.
The traffic pattern of southbound Kirkman Road is also changing after crossing over westbound I-4. See illustration in above link. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when navigating this new temporary traffic pattern.
In November 2016, I-4 Ultimate crews opened the project’s first new bridge to motorists — the current northbound Kirkman Road bridge over westbound I-4. As part of the I-4 Ultimate project, more than 140 bridges will be widened, added or replaced when the project is completed in 2021.
Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.
