CRC Announces Public Hearing at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City

The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) invites all interested Floridians to participate in a public hearing at Gulf Coast State College (GCSC) in Panama City on Wednesday, May 3 beginning at 4:00 PM Central Time (CT).
Members of the media wishing to attend are asked to bring their press credentials. The event will also be live-streamed by The Florida Channel on www.TheFloridaChannel.org.
WHAT: Public hearing of the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC)
WHEN: Wednesday, May 3, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM CT (Doors open at 3:00 PM CT)
*End time is tentative depending upon attendance and public interest in speaking before the CRC. All Floridians wishing to speak before the CRC will be given an opportunity to be heard.

ABOUT THE FLORIDA CONSTITUTION REVISION COMMISSION (CRC)
Once every twenty years, Florida’s Constitution provides for the creation of a thirty-seven member revision commission for the purpose of reviewing Florida’s Constitution and proposing changes for voter consideration. The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) meets for approximately one year, traveling the State of Florida, identifying issues, performing research, and possibly recommending changes to the Constitution. Any amendments proposed by the CRC would be placed on the 2018 General Election ballot. For additional information, visit FLCRC.GOV. DEO Staff Plant Pinwheels to Raise Awareness of Child Abuse Prevention

On Tuesday, April 11, 2017, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Executive Director Cissy Proctor will plant a pinwheel garden with DEO staff, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to helping raise awareness of child abuse prevention in Florida. Pinwheels for Prevention is coordinated by Prevent Child Abuse Florida, the Ounce of Prevention Fund of Florida and the Florida Department of Children and Families. The campaign highlights the many resources available to provide support for Florida families so children have the opportunity to live healthy, happy lives.

Prospects for Tax Reform – View from the States

On Tuesday, April 11th at 11:00 A.M. ET, the National Black Chamber of Commerce will host a media teleconference to discuss the U.S. House of Representatives, Ways and Means Committee tax reform blueprint and the positive economic impact it will have on small and mid-sized businesses in states across the nation. The call will feature business voices from Florida, Nevada, and Louisiana who will give their perspective on how the blueprint’s pro-growth provisions—such as lower tax rates and full expensing—will enable local companies to expand and invest, creating jobs and bringing economic opportunity to their communities.

Joining Senator Thurston will be former Senator Geraldine Thompson, and members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the oldest Greek-letter organization established in the United States by black college women.
