Florida A&M University (FAMU) Athletics Director Milton Overton, Jr., announced Coach Alex Wood has resigned his position as head football coach and will step down today.
Overton said, “Wood has served FAMU Athletics with honor as he worked to help rebuild the Rattler football program during the past three seasons. We thank him for his dedication and service.”
Offensive Line Coach Edwin Pata, a two-time FAMU alumnus and former FSU football player, will serve as interim head football coach.
FAMU will work diligently to identify the next head football coach under the leadership of Interim Athletics Director John Eason.

FAMU Athletic Director Milton Overton Announces Resignation, New Role at Kennesaw State University
Earlier today, Florida A&M University (FAMU) Athletic Director Milton Overton notified Interim President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., of his plans to accept a position at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia as athletic director. Overton will assume his new position on December 1, 2017. He began his tenure at FAMU in August 2015.
“We are highly appreciative of the work AD Overton has done during his tenure at FAMU and wish him well in his future endeavors,” Robinson said. “This opportunity moves him closer to his family.”
Overton thanked Dr. Robinson, Board of Trustees Chair Kelvin Lawson, and the FAMU community “for embracing our department’s effort to build champions in the classroom, on the field and in life with academic excellence and integrity.”
Robinson has named FAMU graduate John Eason as the interim athletic director. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from FAMU and served as a member of the Rattler football team. He retired at the end of 2015 from the University of Georgia as its director of player development.
“Mr. Eason is well-equipped to help keep our program moving forward,” said Robinson, who announced that he would immediately launch a national search for Overton’s permanent replacement.

Eric Miller to join as Chief Inspector General
Governor Rick Scott today announced Chief Inspector General Melinda Miguel’s resignation, which will be effective today. Melinda Miguel will be pursuing opportunities in the private sector. Eric Miller, who currently serves as Inspector General at the Agency for Health Care Administration, will serve as the Governor’s Chief Inspector General beginning Friday, April 21, 2017.

Eric Miller has served in his current position as Inspector General at AHCA since September, 2011. Prior to this role, Eric served as Manager of Corporate Compliance at Citizens Property Insurance Corporation from 2008 to 2011. He has also served in various leadership roles in Florida state government since 1993. Eric received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of West Florida and his Master of Science in Public Administration from Troy University.
Gov. Scott Announces Resignation of FDOT Secretary Jim Boxold; Rachel Cone as Interim Secretary
Governor Rick Scott announced today Secretary Jim Boxold’s resignation from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), which will be effective on February 3, 2017. He has served in this role since 2015. Rachel Cone, who currently serves as Assistant Secretary for Finance and Administration, will serve as Interim Secretary beginning on February 4th.
Governor Scott said, “Jim Boxold has done a great job leading FDOT and I want to thank him for his hard work as we have continued to make critical investments in Florida’s transportation infrastructure. Under his leadership, Florida has been a leader in transportation and made great improvements in our seaports, bridges and airports. His dedication to our state has helped ensure we have a world-class transportation system that supports continued economic growth and job creation. I am truly proud of all the good work Jim has done and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Rachel Cone has served in her current position as Assistant Secretary for Finance and Administration since 2015. Prior to this role at FDOT, Rachel served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Scott from 2012 to 2014. She also was the Communications Director at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection from 2011 to 2012. Rachel received her bachelor’s degree from Auburn University.
