UT Students Will Start the Year with Service at Into the Streets Aug. 24

Posted on August 23, 2018

On Friday, Aug. 24, University of Tampa students will start the academic year off by giving back to the Tampa Bay community during the University’s annual day of service, Into the Streets. The event is scheduled from 12:30–5 p.m., and volunteers will gather in the Martinez Athletics Center before loading into buses to volunteer at one of several sites in the community.

“Into the Streets is such a great way for incoming students to get acquainted with their new community,” said Liz Ho-Sing-Loy ’20, student coordinator for the PEACE Volunteer Center, which is organizing the event. “We hope that by providing the space for students to volunteer with Tampa nonprofits at the beginning of their time here at UT, we are opening the door for them to develop a passion for service and to continue to serve and build relationships with the community that is becoming their home.”

Into the Streets has become a UT tradition and is open to all students, faculty and staff. Organizers have space for 100 participants, and pre-registration is required through Engage.

Volunteers will work with several nonprofit organizations in the Tampa Bay community, including:

  • Plant City Community Garden
  • Tampa Bay Heights
  • Zaksee Bird Sanctuary
  • Feeding Tampa Bay
  • The Spring

For more information, contact the PEACE Volunteer Center at [email protected] or (813) 253-6263.
