Major Gen. Michael Calhoun hosts Camp Blanding’s Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony at the Camp Blanding Museum tomorrow, March 29, at 3 p.m. Representative Ted Yoho will provide remarks and the keynote speaker will be Brig. Gen. (retired) Richard Capps, former Assistant Adjutant General-Army for the Florida National Guard.

WHO: Florida National Guard and Dept. of Military Affairs
WHAT: The Camp Blanding Joint Training Center will have increased noise on the post near Starke and Keystone Heights, Fla., as the Florida Army National Guard will be conducting low level flight training with helicopters.
WHEN: Late night Wednesday November 15th through early morning November 16th, 2017

As usual, The Florida National Guard continues to make every effort to minimize noise but there are times such as this when noise may seem louder than normal to the public.
Residents near the training center can discuss noise concerns with Camp Blanding’s Range Control Office at (904) 682-3351 or the Florida National Guard Public Affairs Office at (904) 823-0166.

The Camp Blanding Museum will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony honoring those who served our nation. The event is hosted by Colonel Daniel (Matt) Johnson, the Commander of Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, and the featured speakers for the event are Mr. Ken Detzner, Secretary of State of Florida and Brig. Gen. Trey Chauncey, Assistant Adjutant General – (Army) Training, Installations & Programs, Florida Army National Guard.
The ceremony is free and open to the public and will be held in the memorial park. All veterans present will be recognized for their service.

The Camp Blanding Museum will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony honoring those who died while serving. The keynote speaker for the event is State Rep. Bobby Payne, District 19. The special guest speaker is Former Adjutant General of Florida, Maj. Gen. Ronald O. Harrison, U.S. Army (ret.). General Harrison is a native Floridian, a graduate of Florida State University, and served as the Adjutant General (TAG) of Florida from March 1, 1992 to Nov. 3, 2001. In his role as TAG, he served as the Governor’s senior military advisor and led the Florida National Guard through two of the most defining events in recent memory – Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. His accomplishments span a number of other areas, to include creation of the Florida Counterdrug Academy and the Drug Demand Reduction Program in Florida. Harrison continues to consult and advise the National Guard on military and homeland security issues.
The ceremony will include the traditional wreath laying and a 21 gun salute.

WHAT: Camp Blanding Joint Training Center will honor Mr. Charles D. Moloney of Gainesville, Florida for his service to our country during World War Two.
WHEN: Friday, March 31, 4 p.m.
WHERE: Camp Blanding Museum & Memorial Park, near the main gate – 5629 State Rd. 16 West, Starke, Fla. 32091
Mr. Moloney enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 4, 1942 at Camp Blanding, Fla. He served in the Pacific Theater and then out processed back at Camp Blanding. The six medals Mr. Moloney did not receive at the time of his departure from the U.S. Army and will be awarded to him on Friday are; The Presidential Unit Citation, The Good Conduct Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Pin, The American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and The World War II Victory Medal.
Brig. Gen. Paul B. “Trey” Chauncey, III, The Assistant Adjutant General-Army (M-Day), will preside over the ceremony.
All news media outlets are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior the ceremony.

WHAT: The televisions debut of the documentary “Camp Blanding: Florida’s Hidden Gem From the Beginning”

This short documentary gives viewers a modern day high tempo view of the current training and capabilities of this little known post. It also provides a rustic historical telling of how the post came into being, its ties to Naval Air Station Jacksonville, the Empire State Building, and German POW’s.
Some of the people who appear in the movie worked at Camp Blanding as teenagers, trained there before entering World War Two, were held as German POW’s, and one woman who was born there, tells the story of her father who worked in the post hospital as a doctor.
The original movie was written, directed and produced by Mr. A.J. Artley. The extended version to air on local television was co-produced by Mr. Artley and WJCT Producer, Mr. Carlos Bouvier.
