Wauchula Man Claims $550,000 LUCKY MONEY™ Jackpot

The Florida Lottery announces that Aniceto Estrada Carrillo, 63, of Wauchula, claimed the $550,000 LUCKY MONEY™ jackpot from the July 17, 2018, drawing at Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $397,851.96.

Vann Gets Nod From Florida Home Builders

Gov. Scott Urges Legislative Approval of $340 Million Federal Grant for Florida’s Citrus Industry

Today, Governor Rick Scott urged the legislative commission charged with granting spending authority to approve $340 million in federal funding to aid Florida’s citrus growers. Earlier this year, following months of Governor Scott fighting for critical funding and support for Florida’s citrus industry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced $340 million in federal funding to aid the Florida citrus industry’s recovery from Hurricane Irma. Now that a grant for this funding has been approved in an agreement between the USDA and the State of Florida, it will be considered by the Florida Legislative Budget Commission (LBC) tomorrow. The block grant for Florida citrus is part of a more than $2.3 billion federal package approved earlier this year.

New Leadership to Take the Helm at Florida Municipal Electric Association

The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) today elected new officers to preside over the organization’s board of directors. Assuming leadership roles at FMEA are President Joel Ivy, general manager for Lakeland Electric; President-elect Mike Poucher, utility director for Ocala Electric Utility; Vice President Allen Putnam, managing director of Beaches Energy Services in Jacksonville Beach; and Secretary-Treasurer James Braddock, director of support services and internal auditing for the City of Wauchula. The elections took place at the association’s annual meeting in Palm Beach.
